Lewisville is a progressive urban Texas community with a population of 86,000, located 20 miles north of downtown Dallas and 34 miles northeast of downtown Fort Worth. Situated on Interstate 35-E in southeast Denton County, Lewisville is in a dynamic growth area encompassing nine counties and spanning 100 miles with a population of more than 4 million.
   The close proximity to Dallas, Fort Worth and DFW International Airport offers easy access to all parts of the Metroplex as well as Texas, the United States and the world. Lewisville encompasses 43 square miles with a terrain that's a combination of level ground and rolling hills. The citys average elevation is 579 feet above sea level, sitting in the East Cross Timbers physiographic region of Texas, between the Blackland Belt and the Grand Prairie. Lewisville is also nestled between two beautiful lakes: Lewisville Lake and Grapevine Lake. The city's main employer is Xerox, with 1,100 employees.
 


   Because it is bisected by two highways, Lewisville has easy access for travel in any direction. I-35 provides access south to Dallas, Austin and San Antonio, and north to near Canada. I-35 also intersects with Interstate 635 (LBJ Freeway), the major business loop around Dallas. State Highway 121 runs northeast and southwest, providing access south to DFW International Airport in less than 10 minutes and north to the Dallas North Tollway. DFW, the third busiest airport in the world, is served by five international and 18 domestic airlines. These airlines provide service to more than 200 worldwide destinations with more than 2,500 flights daily. Additional airports include Dallas Love Field, Alliance Airport and many others located less than 30 miles from Lewisville.

Shopping & Recreation

Lewisville has a strong retail base with Vista Ridge Mall, one of the largest malls in North Texas, with more than 160 stores. Numerous antique stores and boutiques can be found in Old Town Lewisville.

Schools

With an enrollment of more than 44,000, Lewisville Independent School District is the 18th largest school district in Texas. LISD serves 10 different communities and encompasses 130 square miles. The district has 31 elementary schools, 10 middle schools and six high schools, with a graduation rate of 98 percent. Sixty-six percent of graduating seniors plan to continue their education. Lewisville is home to an extension campus of North Central Texas College and a two-year community college whose main campus is in Gainesville. There also are about 35 other institutions of higher education in the area.

Sports

Lewisville offers a variety of sports activities, including municipal and private golf courses, tennis, soccer, and other team sports. Lewisville also has more than 20 public parks. For fishing, boating and water sports, Lewisville residents enjoy Lake Lewisville, Lake Grapevine and many other lakes within close driving distance. Lake Lewisville, with 103 miles of shoreline, is the area's largest lake. Some of the area's biggest yachts can be found at the lake's three marinas. Lake Lewisville is home to the largest and most active fleet of catamarans, and it is also a popular sailboarding lake.
