The real estate market in The Colony offers something for everyone, from starter homes to elegant estates. Single-family detached homes range in price from well under $100,000 to more than $700,000 for large luxury estate properties. Condominiums and townhouses are also available.
Two of the areas newest master-planned communities are The Legends, nestled on the eastern shores of Lake Lewisville at the northern tip of the Metroplex; and Austin Ranch, a 1,500-acre site in The Colonys southeast corner. Other safe, quiet neighborhoods in The Colony are Northpointe, Arbor Glen and Blair Oaks; and the Cottonwoods and Cypress Cove, both on Stewart Peninsula. Land and lots are also available for custom properties.
The Colony was named after the historic Peters Colony Settlement, the only free land-grant colony in the Republic of Texas. Some portions of the land for The Colony were purchased from descendants of the original settlers in the 1840s. The city of The Colony was incorporated in January 1977.
The Colony is part of the Lewisville Independent School District, which boasts a 91.1 percent passing rate for all sections of the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills test according to the Texas Education Agency. Comparatively, the statewide passing rate average on this standardized skills test is 82.1 percent.
The Tribute at The Colony pays homage to great Scottish courses with an 18-hole layout inspired by some of Scotland's most famous holes. The course was designed by golf architect Tripp Davis.
The Tribute at The Colony has its own version of St. Andrews' two finishing holes, including the famous Road Hole complete with a stone wall running the length of the hole's right side. St. Andrews Nos. 1 and 18 spread out in one vast fairway just behind the clubhouse, and there are also tributes to Royal Troon's Postage Stamp, North Berwich's Redan and Turnberry's Wee Burn.
Stewart Peninsula Golf Course is also located on the lake. This course, also designed by Tripp Davis, features nine holes laid out on approximately 88 acres. Although it was designed with a nine-hole layout, Stewart Peninsula has two greens and two sets of tees at each hole, which doubles the course length. This design makes Stewart Peninsula only one of three courses nationwide with such a layout. It offers a beautiful lake view from every hole and is the only local course to feature a boat dock.
With 23 miles of shoreline on beautiful Lake Lewisville, it's no wonder that The Colony calls itself "The City By The Lake." There are 23 municipal parks as well as Hidden Cove Park, a 750-acre municipally owned park on the shore of Lake Lewisville.
